Just remember that, those of you who are sad about Valentine’s Day. 😉
The first year we were together, Q made some comment like: “If every day is like Valentine’s Day, what’s the point of celebrating? It’s just a commercial holiday.”
I agreed: “That’s true, it is commercial.” but thought to myself: “How do you know that I think every day is like Valentine’s Day? You know you think that, but you don’t know that I think that.”
My approach, meanwhile, was more along the lines of: “If he doesn’t do anything for Valentine’s Day, that means he doesn’t love me.” (You can imagine, another growing pains incident).
I’ve since relaxed, and chuckle heartily when I read this Onion article: “Nation’s Girlfriends Admit Absolutely Everything Riding on Valentine’s Day“, particularly this line: “Look, I’m gonna cut the shit here: I’ve basically funneled all my hopes for the future into this one night in which my boyfriend must achieve perfection, or else we’re through”.
Now, we’ll probably exchange cards and make a nice dinner at home.
So if you’re single and not happy about it this Valentine’s Day, remember: it could be worse. You could be someone with nothing planned for your significant other, only to discover that they sorely wanted you to plan something when they started sobbing: “God, I knew you didn’t really love me.”
